This week I climbed big rocks at Joshua Tree National Park and set “Big Rocks” — priorities and intentions — for the upcoming year.
Big Rocks, Pebbles, Sand, and Water are a metaphor for how to fit everything you want into your life. If you start by adding the sand first, then pebbles into a jar — the lesser priorities — there won’t be room for the big rocks — the things that are most important to you. When you start with the big rocks first, the pebbles, then sand, then water, there is room to fit everything into the jar.
I learned this analogy first from a mentor at Tender Greens, and later applied while working at Papa & Barkley. Now think of this often with Fruit + Flower Co. and the type of life I want to culivate.
What are your Big Rocks? The pebbles? And what’s just sand?
Two of my Big Rocks for 2023 is to grow F+F subscribers and reach a national audience. Here’s where I need your help.
2022 Highlights: A Year-in-Review
Another year around the sun. Four seasons come and gone. We’ve planted, fertilized, watered, blossomed and bloomed. We’ve wilted and gone to seed, lying dormant beneath the ground until the next cycle when we begin to unfurl and flower once again.
Sometimes I get so focused on the tasks ahead that I forget to appreciate what was. A few of my favorite moments from last year include:
30+ cannabis infused recipes written — with specific dosing instructions for 5mg THC per serving.
Cool events and collabs with rad people and brands like Cypress Hill, Tammy the Cannabis Cutie, Stundenglass, Kiva, Levo, Jetty, Source, and Glass House Farms.
Grateful to Lauren Yoshiko for the opportunity to write about cannabis for Thrillist.
December 2022 issue of High Times baby!
Created Mogu Magu, an AAPI culture + food + cannabis collective with Wendy Zeng, and hosted unforgettable events with fellow AAPIs, chefs, entrepreneurs, creatives, and allies.
Launched this Substack — Fruit + Flower Unfurled!
One year ago, I asked my friend Brian if he'd join me in building Fruit + Flower Co. We made a pact to do a serious check-in with each other every year to evaluate how it's going, what's working, what's not, and whether both parties want to continue with the goal of being able to do this from anywhere in the world. 🥂 CHEERS to a new year and chapter two of Fruit + Flower.
