I came across a post about losing and failure I wrote exactly 11 months ago. I want to share it with you:
“Can I tell you something about this Pineapple Meringue Tart? It was born from the ashes of my failure in the Hulu “Baker’s Dozen” tent. I didn’t get to make my geometric pineapple whip tart for the judges.
But that idea turned into this one, which helped me WIN the Elevated Eight Cannabis Cook-off. Being a part of that introduced me to a community of culinary cannabis-loving chef friends, and what I’m doing today.
So you see, losing isn’t failing. Failing isn’t losing. It’s just the next stepping stone, and the next step is entirely up to you. You can choose to step back into comfort and familiarity. Or will you take one giant leap forward into the unknown? Hold your breath. Grab my hand. Let’s go!”
As a culture and society, we tend to look down on failing and losing. Why do we hate failure? I feel ashamed and reluctant to talk about it, but I also know that failures are how we learn and grow. I’m making a conscious effort to embrace my failures as often as I celebrate my wins.
One year ago, Fruit + Flower Co. and this newsletter didn’t exist yet. Born out of the ashes of an epic breakup, it was just a twinkle of an idea without a name. And yet, here we are. Thank you for grabbing my hand and taking a giant leap forward into the unknown with me.
