Wow! Big news this week from the White House on marijuana reform. While the announcement caused an eruption of celebratory cheers, there’s been plenty of criticism that the scope is limited and the absolute minimum that could have been done. The announcement doesn’t make any real policy changes to decriminalize cannabis, but it is a step in the right direction. We could criticize what more could be done but for now I’m going to take a moment to celebrate this small victory.
Read more about the implications of Biden’s announcement in this excellent overview by journalist Mary Jane Gibson.
When big change feels far away and like an impossible task, focus on the small steps in front of you. Keep putting one foot in front of the other. Next time you pause to look up, notice how far you’ve gone.
According to recent polling, a record high of 68% of Americans support legalizing cannabis for adult use and 69% of Gen Z aged 18-24 prefer cannabis to alcohol. So what’s the holdup? Welp, our elected leaders who make policy decisions for our country are relics and architects of the war on drugs. Be a part of change, exercise your right to VOTE and participate in your local and state elections.

Cannabis Travel + Tourism
Last week I set off on a week-long road trip through wine and weed country in Sonoma, Mendocino, and Like counties in Northern California. These growing regions, prized and renowned for their wine vineyards, are where some of the best sun-grown, organic cannabis in the world is grown. My road trip companion and I drove winding roads through golden oak-dotted hills, up and over crisp, cloud-covered mountains to meet some of the most badass, award-winning cannabis farmers, just in time for harvest season when the buds are at their juiciest.
I’ll share my Weed + Wine Country Road Trip Itinerary in next Sunday’s issue for paid subscribers.
As more states legalize cannabis, a budding cannabis travel industry has sprouted inspiring boutique bud and breakfasts, cannabis-friendly hotels, farm stays, infused dinner series, and spa amenities.
Guests can book cannabis-friendly lodging through Bud and Breakfast, search for 420-friendly spaces on Airbnb, stay at hotels like The Clarendon in Phoenix, Arizona or The Madrones in Anderson Valley, California. A quick search turned up a list of “The Best Cities in America for Next-Level Cannabis Experiences” with recommendations of where to enjoy mary jane in 14 major metropolitan cities across the U.S.
