I went on an unhinged rant about responsible edible dosing and got into an argument with an IG troll and a journalist. My gripe: Cannabis recipes and articles are too vague and unspecific about dosing amounts. Often recommending too much cannabis flower without understanding the math, putting the person making homemade edibles unwittingly at risk for over-consumption above their tolerance level.
Had I followed the instructions and amounts recommended in the article for beginners that set me off on this rant, it would make brownies that are 200-300mg THC each. YOWZA, that’s a macro-dose and intensely intoxicating. It’s recommended that beginners start at 5mg THC or less. THIS why homemade edibles get a bad reputation.
The reason they’re not more specific is “because there are “many variables that it’s impossible to be accurate.” And then there’s unhelpful tolerance pissing match comments like: “anything under 50mg is weak,” and “I don’t feel anything under 300mg, 5-10mg is a waste of time and a ripoff.”
*sigh* But we CAN calculate dosing! Math is our friend.
I had a lengthy chat on IG with an inquisitive person who asked how much flower they should use to make a tincture that’s 5mg THC per 1ml dropper. We did the math in real-time, as I explained the steps and reasoning behind each one. At the end, they said:
“You answered all the questions I’d been asking over the past 2 months from friends and online. In this brief chat, I’m 100% confident in my servings now.” – @s3_industries
F*ck yes! My heart just grew 3x larger, so I’ll extend the same personalized math tutorial to you. Math doesn’t have be hard. I’ll make it fun… with cookies!
