Travel Itinerary: 72 Hours Stoned in Weed + Wine Country
A road trip from Los Angeles to Mendocino
Gassed up and loaded with snacks, my road trip companion Rachel @smokesipsavor and I hit the road for a catnip adventure through weed and wine country. Over the Golden Gate bridge and a little over an hour north of San Francisco is the gateway to the southernmost end of the Emerald Triangle, the largest cannabis growing region in the United States.
The best sun-grown cannabis has grown here for generations because the hot days and cold nights are the ideal growing climate. You know what else grows great here? Grapes for wine. Wine vineyards dotted hillsides go on for hundreds of miles along the rolling California hills where cannabis farms are interspersed, tucked away and hidden out of sight.
Here’s the itinerary of our 3-day catnip road trip of where to eat, drink, weed, and enjoy shrooms to inspire your next adventure.
DAY 1
Los Angeles
9am: Hit the road loaded up with snacks and drinks. Drive north on the 5 freeway.
Middle of California
11am: Stop in Buttonwillow for a pee break and fill up the gas tank. Rachel’s brother Holden says the taco truck in Buttonwillow is delicious and worth pausing for a taco snack. I don’t want to hotbox Rachel in the car with my taco-farts.
1:15pm: Stop in Santa Nella and the famous Andersen’s Pea Soup for a pee break and lunch. Usually bustling with people and families, the restaurant and gift shop was oddly deserted this time. A sketchy dude outside asked if we wanted to buy any weed (hah!) and inside I had to fight every fiber of my being from buying an adorable cat in a garden pot flag.
Oakland
Around the time I head over the hills and into the Bay Area around Hayward,I like to switch my radio station to the local Bollywood radio station Bolly 92.3FM. The upbeat music and tips about the local real estate market keeps me going through the last of the 6 hour stretch.
3pm: Took the scenic route around the lake and stopped at Rose Mary Jane, a community-centric cannabis dispensary that curates an excellent menu of products that are women, minority, and POC-owned brands. The open-air warehouse loft style building boasts a cannabis beverage bar, where you can sit at the bar or outside on the sunny patio to sip THC-infused drinks. We sat and enjoyed a bottle of Not Your Father’s Root Beer, and Agua del Flor Fresa.
We ran into my friend Chef Yogi, who gave us a tour and shared recommendations of her favorite local cannabis brands including: Flower Girl, lube by women for women; Dolo, an Oakland-based flower and prerolls; Elefante, AAPI woman-owned gummy edibles; Potli Sriracha, another AAPI woman-owned brand; and Loverboy, infused lube and gummy c*ck rings from a mother and daughter owned brand.
San Francisco
5pm: Check into The LINE SF hotel in Union Square to crash for the night and enjoy a night in SF. Valet parking costs $70 and that’s the only option since we’re in the city, yikes. The newly opened hotel in Union Square is on the border of the popular shopping and tourist area and “don’t walk in that direction.” Gotcha, we hop a Lyft to dinner.
