I yearn for a more analog life. More real and tangible experiences. More in-person conversations and human-to-human connections. Less time on algorithms and an AI generated dystopia.
10 days off social media was glorious! I read an entire book, pet donkeys, took naps, and had space for my brain to unwind from its knot. Now that I’m back from holiday and in the swing of things again, I find my old social media addiction is back. Tense, itchy fingers can’t help but reach for the precious to mindlessly scroll like a digital junkie.
I still love social media for its ability to find and connect with your people from anywhere in the world. However, I’m finding that positive in-person experiences make me the happiest and most joyful, whereas the social media chatter has become a source of ever-present stress. Which is why I’m finding so much joy hosting events, because it brings people together for irl human connection.
You want that feeling where your soul feels refreshed? This a nudge to go outside and do something fun with someone you like. Be silly. Try something new.

Easy, Casual Kick It Ideas
Host your own! It doesn’t have to be complicated. The best kinds of gatherings are effortless. Keep it simple and small.
Be discreet and respectful. Consuming c*nn*bis in public parks is not allowed in Los Angeles or California (and most places), so technically breaking the rules and not without risk. Keep it chill, don’t draw attention, and don’t accidentally start a fire.
Pizza & Za
The pizza was hot and the za was sticky-icky. The idea of Pizza & Za at the Park came up when Willy and I smelled a jar of Red Congolese and we both swear it smelled like pizza.
Hanging out high with friends eating pizza in the park while playing board games and watching the sunset was one of the best things I’ve done in a while. For just a few hours, the stress of work and life felt suspended in time as we giggled and laughed with pepperoni oil dripping down our chins.
The assignment was for everyone to bring something to share. We ordered from our buds at Secret Pizza, famous for their New York and New Jersey thing-crust style pizza.
Where? We found a hidden set of picnic tables, tucked in a forest of trees in a quiet public park with very few visitors. There’s no children, families, or law enforcement patrols paying attention or noticing this patch of grass.
Foraging Hike
Ghetto birds and a 100+ degree Fahrenheit day didn’t deter us from packing a w**d-filled picnic and going on an elevated hike with Mehndi to learn about edible and medicinal native plants.
DIY guided foraging tour. Download the free Seek by iNaturalist app and identify plants and animals all around you. Go explore a hiking trail near you.
Chef Wendy made bomb sandwiches. We brought ice cold drinks and chilled rolled towels. Herbal refreshments from Moon Made Farms enjoyed with a flameless dry herb vaporizer for fire safety.
Thank you e10 Labs!
Extra big thank you to e10 Labs for participating in and sponsoring both Pizza & Za and Forage & Feast! We got to try their new Iven and Odin dry herb vaporizer devices. Since we’re out in public and in high risk fire danger areas, a discreet no flame, non-combustible method of consumption was ideal.
Summer Event Season
Earlier this week, I chatted with Margaret, host of Bite Me a podcast show about edibles, for an upcoming episode and we discussed the art of gathering, heart of hospitality, and advice for those who want to host their own c*nn*bis events. We had an in-depth conversation about navigating the legalities and risks, tips for success, and the kind of w**d events that invoke a massive eye roll and groan from both of us.
More on that coming up! I’ll share the podcast episode along with a How-To Guide for paid subscribers – for those who want to host their own intentional w**d gatherings.
Delighted to share that I’m a judge for the 2025 California State Fair Cannabis Awards in Sacramento and the 2025 Headstash Bowl – the latter is a fully blind competition, which should be interesting! Last year I judged Edibles for The Emerald Cup and I feel much better prepared to take on the mountain of entries.
Which means I’m headed up to Sacramento in July for the State Fair (hello funnel cake!) and Eureka at the end of August for Cannifest. If you’re in the Sac-town area, save the date for Thursday 7/10 as we’re planning a Mogu Magu x Grown Womxn Good W**d casual get-together in the evening.

Gardening Club
Did you start your seeds yet? Now’s the time to plant your seeds and seedlings into the ground by mid-June.
You don’t need anything fancy to get started. Just some organic fruit & vegetable potting soil, a large 10-15 gallon pot, seeds or seedlings, water, and plenty of sunshine. Position in a spot that gets at least 8+ hours of direct sunlight a day – just like a tomato plant.
Where to Find:
USDA Certified Organic Seeds and Seedlings: Grow It From Home
Certified California Genetics, Sustainably-Grown: Humboldt Seed Co.
Autoflower & Feminized Seeds: ILGM.com
Sharing via the Kindness of Neighbors: W**d Underground Discord channel (Los Angeles)
Starting From Seed:
Direct sow seeds into small pots with soil. Transfer when the seedlings are about 6-inches to 1-ft. tall with 3 sets of true leaves (at least 6 leaves total)
You don’t need to start seeds in paper towels for them to grow. Although you can if you’d like to check seed germination before placing into soil.
Maintenance During Veg Stage:
From June through August, deep water about once a week or more frequently during high, extreme temperatures. Allow the soil to fully dry out between watering, it can handle being dry for a couple days. If leaves start to droop slightly, it’s thirsty. If the plant wilts and falls over, it’s overwatered. Check soil moisture by sticking your finger into the dirt to feel moisture level.
During this time, the plant is in veg stage when it grows bushy with leaves. You can start to see signs of male vs. female plants. If you’re growing outdoors, you don’t need to defoliate or remove healthy leaves. Carefully remove any yellowing or dead leaves.
This plant thrives on neglect. Other than making sure it’s properly watered and healthy, you don’t need to do much tending to the plant during this time.

XOXO, Christina W.
