I’m with fellow c****b*s creatives Wulan Russell, who’s in town visiting from Colorado, and Tída Norasingh at her DTLA creative studio where we just finished a bucket of Jollibee's fried chicken and indulged in too many pieces of crunchy chicken skin dipped in gravy. We sparked up a conversation about what it feels like when you’re too high.
“Is it because I’m smoking too much? Am I a burnout? Am I high all the time and not doing things? Or am I just tired and this is not my priority of where I want to put my time?”

Earlier I wrote about burnout and taking a tolerance break to reset and have a healthier relationship with the plant. I could tell I was over-consuming and it was affecting me.
3-weeks into my tolerance break and I’ve reduced my consumption since the Emerald Cup judging window. I’m also spending more time outdoors, stretching, digging around in the dirt, and less time on Instagram. My mood has significantly improved.
I’m a passionate advocate for the plant and find joy in celebrating its many benefits, but I also want to be real and share honest reflection and advice about responsible consumption.

A few scenarios where over-consumption may happen:
Oops, too high! One bad experience
That one time you ate the edible. The j hit stronger than you thought. That bong rip or fat dab was too much… Yea, we’ve all been there. Whatever you had, it was too potent.
If this has happened to you, you know this feeling well. You’re stuck where you are. Maybe you’re having a panic attack. You had too much too fast and now experiencing an uncomfortable high.
For me, I get nauseous and feel like I’m moving underwater in slow motion. I feel and hear my heart beating *THUMP-thump* and do deep breathing exercises to help me work through the anxiety bordering on panic. I can recognize what’s happening and talk myself down into a calm state and make a choice to let go into the high. On a couple occasions, it was so intense that I puked and slept for 8 hours. That’s my body telling me that’s too much.
This is called “greening out.”
I asked a few of my people what it feels like for them when they’re too high:
“Like my head is filled with fuzz, like a stuffed animal.”
“I just plateau and I reach a point where I’m done and go to sleep.”
“I starfished onto the floor.”
“I felt like tomorrow was going to be my last day.”
