The first time I saw a dab rig, I thought: “There’s no way I can do that. I’m gonna be high for days.” 😨 A towering maze of intricate glass with heating coils, elements and torches. I was intimidated.
Explain it to me like I’m 21+
Think of dabs from concentrates like a bottle of fine wine, compared to vapes, which is more like canned or boxed wine. Both contain wine, but of arguably different quality. There are plenty of very good canned and box wine options these days!
These are not the same as a dry herb vaporizer, which heats the oil from ground flower which has average potency between 20-30%. Concentrates can be 70-90% potency. Although some dry herb vaporizer devices can be used for concentrates in addition to flower.
The high experience from taking a dab is like the weed equivalent of taking a shot. All the incoming cannabinoids light up your body’s endocannabinoid receptors all at once for a high sensory overload.
When I finally worked up the courage to try a dab, a high CBD rosin sent me to the moon, floating on cloud nine. Years later, I over-eagerly tried a dab of Whitethorn Rose and greened out because it was too delicious.
Depending on personal dose, the effects can range from euphoric and relieving, to paranoid and unpleasant. Some people need very high doses, most people need very little. Start low, go slow. Consume responsibly.
Like how wine aficiandos who enjoy sipping wine from specific glassware, pouring into decanters for the wine to breathe, and storing in temperature and humidity controlled refrigerators — same-same with cannabis connoisseurs. The accessories, glassware, and tools to savor these fruits are part of the enjoyment experience.
Can you drink wine out of a plastic cup? Sure, but it tastes better in a glass. A glass rig is a delicious and beautiful way to dab, but it’s heavy and delicate.
What if you could have it all – quality and convenience in glass?

Dab Stick™ the newest innovation that puts the portability of glass dabs in your pocket
“I like it because it’s the portability and ease of a vape, but better, because it’s a dab.”

What is a Dab?
Dabbing is a term for a consumption method of vaporizing concentrates. It’s a high potency method of enjoying cannabis amongst connoisseurs for its pure flavor, aroma, and strong effects.
Dabs are most often sticky, gooey, and honey-like consistency at room temperature. Pure oil concentrating sticky trichomes from the flowers, separated and extracted using various methods to make concentrates. Stored in small jars, best kept cold to preserve flavor and aroma. The most highly sought after, cleanest extraction with best flavor is live rosin.
Very little goes a long way. A tiny dab will do ya.
Evolution of dab technology + innovation
Butter knives and bangers are analog. Portable e-rigs, e-nails and hot knives are offer ease and precision of the digital future. For connoisseurs, collectors and flavor chasers, glass is always best.
I was taught how to heat a glass banger with my creme brûlée torch using feel, sight, and intuition. Imprecise but resourceful.
Heating to the ideal temperature for optimum flavor, vapor, and effects can vary based on the concentrate type and personal preference. Finding the sweet spot is the tricky part.
How can you fit the experience of a glass dab in your pocket?
Portable e-rigs feature slick, compact tabletop and pocket-sized designs with glowing lights, customizable temperatures, and precision dabs at the click of a button. Convenient yet needs charging and diligent cleaning for optimal performance.
A few of the most popular e-rig devices include:
Puffco Peak, Proxy and Pivot are coveted electronic devices for smooth dabs. Uses high-quality ceramic chamber with temperature sensors to retain heat for a pure, flavorful experience.
Dr. Dabber Switch2 a tabletop induction heating device and Ghost2 a portable ceramic chamber heated handheld device are getting good reviews for its flavor and tasty clouds.
Focus V Carta uses a full-surface ceramic heating built for control, consistency, and performance.
Stundenglass Modul + Dok uses a quartz concentrate chamber and stainless-steel heating element attached to a battery with high-resolution display.
Dip Devices portable pens that you can dip into concentrates for a direct-to-container experience that reduces mess and waste.
Must-have accessories:
Hot Knife: Must-have tool. Sticky concentrates easily slide off like melted butter.
Terp Pearls: For serious dabbers, terp pearls help improve heating and surface area for more efficient vaporization and less wasted oil. And they’re cute! I got a tiny, adorable mint chip ice cream cone pearl from artist Sumugi Glass.
E10 Labs new Dab Stick™ is the latest innovation in dabbing.
Like an air-fryer for concentrates.
Demo: How to Use the Dab Stick™
Dab Sticks™ are pre-filled, pre-dosed, single-serve glass containers of 0.1g solventless rosin designed to be used with the Odin, a portable handheld heat-no-burn vaporizer device.
I tried an inhale from the Dab Stick at Hall of Flowers and it ripped. It’s in between the ease of a vape and an e-rig. Recycle, upcycle, or discard the used glass. Not zero waste, but significantly less waste than all-in-one “disposable” vapes.
Step 1: Make sure Odin device is charged and clean. Wipe clean with isopropyl alcohol and dry before using.
Step 2: Insert glass Dab Stick. Twist cover counter-clockwise to open heating chamber. Place a rosin-filled glass stick into the heating chamber, concentrate side down.
Step 3: Press the buttons to heat the device. Hold down button to turn on and heat. Recommended medium or high temperature setting for Dab Stick.
Step 4: Inhale slowly. When the device buzzes, place your mouth around the tip of the glass mouthpiece and inhale slowly. Inhale as much or as little as you’d like during the 3-minute session. You don’t need to smoke it all in one inhale. Sips, not rips. The device will continue to maintain temp, and buzz a reminder when the session is about to end.
Step 5: Empty chamber and clean. Wait for the glass to cool before removing to clean and discard.
No cannabinoids left behind! You could save the finished glass with any leftover oil to make an infused alcohol tincture. Submerge and soak in a small jar of high-proof alcohol overnight. Remove glass tubes and discard, saving the infused alcohol tincture. IMPORTANT: Do not break the glass tubes.
