What are you picking up for your long weekend?
Serious question: Do you consume cannabis around your family? Are you the type of person who sneaks outside to smoke a j? Or are you discreetly snacking on edibles throughout the day? Props if you’re at the point where you can have open conversations and consumption with your family members. Extra props to you if you’re serving a cannabis-infused Danksgiving with all the fixins’.
This is my first Thanksgiving where my parents openly know I consume cannabis. Being brave enough to have candid conversations with my parents to destigmatize and show the healing power of plants is a work in progress.
If you’re ready to crack open the cannabis conversation with your family, go in armed with science and facts with this free Modern Cannabis education guide – with 11 different AAPI language translations. Let me know how it goes!

For Discreet Consumption
No one knows. No one will ever know. Smoking isn’t the only way to consume cannabis. Look for these types of products when you’re trying to get high on the downlow.
Other than gummies and chocolates, dissolvable powders, drink mixes, or sugar like ones from Humboldt Sugar Co., MyHi stir sticks, Splash Nano, and Atla can be easily mixed into morning coffee, tea, and any liquid drinks. Sugar-free options like Kinslip dissolvable strips, Level tablets, Petra microdosing mints, and Kikoko tea and mints are an excellent option to stash in your purse.
For the Foodies
There’s so many ways to eat your weed these days, I could cook an entire Thanksgiving meal infused with cannabis products.
As you’re browsing the edibles, upgrade your palate and ask for gummies, chocolates and treats made with solventless hash, rosin or cannabutter. A few of my favorite brands include Papa’s Select, P&B Kitchen, Rose Delights, Queen Mary, Ouid Confections, Space Gems, Kiva chocolate bars, Terra Bites, Big Pete’s Treats, and Good Tide,
My dream Danksgiving meal would have Kiva’s limited edition infused turkey gravy drizzled over creamy, garlicky Yukon Gold mashed potatoes made with tangy creme fraiche. A crunchy fall salad with little gem lettuce, thinly sliced fuyu persimmons and pomegranate seeds with hunks of creamy goat cheese lightly tossed in Saucy infused lemon herbal vinaigrette. Any turkey not covered in that infused gravy would get a drizzle of Potli’s sriracha sauce to add some spicy heat. Warm cast-iron skillet cornbread spread with whipped honey butter made with Kikoko’s live resin Manuka honey. A classic green bean casserole with cream of mushroom would get topped with those delightfully crunchy fried onions and crushed TSUMo Snacks Onion Snazzle Os – a crispy onion ring snack made with gluten-free sorghum. I don’t always put marshmallows on my candied yams, but when I do Mellows Brown Butter Sage handcrafted marshmallows pair perfectly with the sweet, earthy roasted root vegetables and they’d be great toasted on top of a slice of sweet potato pie. And since I can’t resist something sweet late at night, A Cosmic View’s Moon lollies and honey sweets hard candies are a soothing way to end the evening.
For Cutting Down on Drinking Alcohol
Cocktail hour doesn’t have to be boring for those opting out of alcohol this holiday season. With more and more people embracing cannabis over alcohol and drinking less overall, there’s options. A new wave of cannabis-infused beverages sip just like an alcoholic beverage but without the next-day hangover.
Cocktail drinkers will love mixing with cannabis botanical beverages like MXXN Kentucky Oak and London Dry with flavors and aromas from bourbon and gin, Artet’s farm-to-bottle Aperitif, and Pamos spirits and cocktails. Winos might enjoy a cannabis wine like Herbacée sparkling rosier or House of Saka Spark Mimosa. There’s even a crisp, dry, canned cannabis apple cider, Malus, and hot cider, chai, and cocoa drink mixes by Khemia that are perfect for the holiday season.
In addition to cans of La Croix and Waterloo, my fridge is also stocked with sparkling drink cans of ginger pear from Mad Lilly, every flavor of Cann, and Artet Strawberry Basil.

For Your Skeptical Parents and Grandparents
Make a believer out of the most skeptical family members. My dad went from being convinced that the police were going to raid my house for growing a few plants to asking if I had any “marijuana” to help him with his shoulder pain. Progress starts with small steps!
“Oh everything hurts, sure I’ll try anything,” said my best friend’s grandma to me over the phone. “You got any more of that balm I can give to my friends?” my mom asked as she rubs the oil on her wrists and arms after a casual ping pong game at the neighborhood senior center. “Old people ailments” – pain and sleep – are the top reasons why older people use cannabis.
Cannabis for pain relief using topical balms, body oil, transdermal patches, and bath salts are an easy entry to talking about the benefits of cannabis with parents and grandparents. Look for brands like Papa & Barkley, Mary’s Medicinals, A Cosmic View, Om, and Kush Queen.
Suggest cannabis as a sleep solution with tinctures, edibles, and beverages. Ask the budtender or look for products that contain a blend of CBN (a minor cannabinoid), THC, CBD, and a full spectrum of cannabinoids whenever possible.
For the Smokers
Tis the season for trying something new. If you prefer vapes for their ease of use and portability, look for cartridges that are made with solventess rosin, or live resin for better quality, aroma, and flavor. I personally like Jetty’s Solventless line, PAX live rosin pods, PodTones rosin vaporizers, Raw Garden, and Bloom disposable vapes.
Prerolls are fun and easy to share and puff-puff-pass. If you see any of these brands, pick them up and give em a try: Drew Martin, Garden Society, Stone Road, Chemistry, Substance, Nasha, Slimmies, and Dolo.
If you prefer flower, ask for outdoor sun-grown, Sun+Earth Certified, or small family-owned and operated and women-owned cannabis brands whenever possible.
A few of my favorite flower brands: Moon Made Farms, Emerald Spirit Botanicals, Sol Spirit Farms, Sonoma Hills Farm, Swami Select, Devi Cannabis, Biko, Fig Farms, Source, A Golden State, and Bohemian Chemist.
What products do you like and recommend? Give your favorite brand and product a shoutout.
How to Travel Discreetly with Catnip
Since cannabis is not federally legal, it is technically not allowed and you do so at your own risk. If you’re going to take the risk, at least be smart and discreet about it so if your bag is searched it’s not totally obvious. “Nope, that’s a battery charger.”
Stash vapes, edibles, capsules, tablets, topicals, and things in your makeup and toiletries bag.
Put vape hardware in with phone, computer chargers, and electronic devices.
Skip flower and prerolls, or keep it to a small amount.
Remove edibles from packaging and put them into different unmarked containers.
Choose products that blend in easily. Mints, stir sticks, and individually packaged gummies and chocolates look like candy.
Spread out the products over several bags, pouches, and pockets.
Edibles are the easiest to travel with, and a little goes a long way. The effects from one edible can last over 4 hours so you need less of it compared to smoking.

This Thanksgiving I’m thankful for all of you here reading Fruit + Flower Unfurled. Exactly one year ago, I was hunched over a tiny desk in the corner of a cluttered kitchen filled with anxiety, pain, hurt, and rage while managing the peak shitstorm of my breakup.
This Substack newsletter was barely a spark of an idea and the only thing I could do to save myself from spiraling was to get baked and bake my mind off it. From that place of healing, Fruit + Flower was born.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a part of this journey.
XOXO, Christina W.
