In my first Cannabis Drink Guide Vol. 1.5, I promised I’d tell you the story of how I blackout and barf after a couple alcoholic drinks. So here goes:
Alcohol doesn’t make me feel good. I lack the enzyme for my liver to process alcohol. My body literally rejects it and forces it out of me. I get full body aches, my heart races, the room starts to spin, and then my vision blacks out. I’m fully conscious and can hold a conversation, I just can’t see and feel dizzy. At this point, I have a short window of time to find an unoccupied bathroom for my body to expel the liquid from my stomach in one violent lurch. Immediately afterward, my vision is restored and I’m sober again.
Needless to say, I don’t consume a lot of alcohol but I do enjoy cannabis drinks. It’s great for focusing during the day, finding creativity in the afternoon, and unwinding for a good night’s sleep in the evening.

What to look for when choosing a cannabis drink
There are A LOT of cannabis drinks available these days. The good news is that there’s more options than ever to choose from. The challenging part is knowing which one to choose that don’t taste like “dirty socks” and “window cleaner.”
While taste is up to the drinker – keep reading for my personal picks for best-tasting drinks – do look for these keywords on packaging:
“Fast-Acting” or “Quick Onset” or “Rapid Effect”: Which means you will start to feel the high effects within 15-20 minutes of drinks. Most beverages on the market are fast-acting now.
Much like how you feel the effects of an alcoholic drink immediately, drinks made with nanoemulsification technology are water-soluble and make it easier and faster for your body to absorb and process cannabinoids (THC + CBD) so you feel the effects sooner.
Dosing - mg THC per serving: Pay close attention to the dosing instructions. Unless you’re an experience high-potency consumer, you’ll want to choose drinks that are between 5-10 mg THC per drink or serving.
Some small bottles packaged as shots, syrup, and tonics can contain 30-100mg THC per serving. That’s a very high dose for most people. It is recommended for beginners to start at 5mg THC or less.
