May has been a flurry of activity. This month I co-hosted a joy-filled Pink Jesus Ice Cream Social with Sonoma Hills Farm; taught a virtual dumpling-making class for PAX to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month; hand-dipped my very own beeswax candle at a launch event for Juana; gifted my mom her own baby plants to grow; attended a weed-themed baby shower with a baby nug piñata filled with treats; met up with fellow content creators at the OG Cannabis Cafe; went to a sun-grown w**d farmer’s market hosted by Woody Harrelson at TheWoods; hosted two incredibly talented sun-grown farmers Tina Gordon of Moon Made Farms and Aaron Keefer of Sonoma Hills Farm at the Fruit + Flower House; and a photo of me wearing a pair of hot pink High On Plants earrings is in this weekend’s Los Angeles Times.
As I reflect on this month’s social activities, it feels surreal and fantastically unbelievable. I have been judging edibles for The Emerald Cup for the last 2 weeks. Maybe none of this was real and I’m in an edibles-fueled fever dream. There are 40 entries, I have 14 more to go.
If I’m in an imaginary “through the looking glass’ world, I like it here and I want to stay. Thanks for coming down the rabbit hole with me.

Last Call for Planting Season!
For real though, I’ve been feeling pangs of guilt galavanting about hosting frivolous gatherings when there’s really hard, gnarly, serious shit going on in the world. I get lost in the shame spiral for a moment, and then I’m reminded that we need fun, joy, levity, community, healing, and connection with each other to create a better future. I spotted this on someone’s IG Story who tagged me:
“I bought myself a ticket to this [ice cream social] because I need some joy in my life.”
And this note from a guest who attended my Pink Jesus Ice Cream Social touched my heart:
“Going back into any social setting has been extremely hard to navigate while learning to unmask. But the ice cream social, with its conscious w**d people, was the safest I have felt at an event in a long while. It really means a lot to have these opportunities to connect, learn, and grow… It’s wonderful that one plant can connect so many to each other while also reconnecting us to the earth.”

Pink Jesus is complex. From ice cream to flower, floats to chews, guests had the opportunity to try Pink Jesus in all her forms, from flower to vapes, edibles to non-infused ice cream. Check out tasting notes with my friend and fellow Budist, Roger Sterling.

Book Review: “High Hopes” by Dr. Miyabe Shields, Ph.D
Miyabe, wrote a book! “High Hopes” is an intense, raw, bluntly matter-of-fact account of what it’s like inside the mind of a young queer, neurodivergent scientist.
I had the pleasure of both reading the book and living out pieces of it live and in person with Miyabe over the course of two weeks during their visit to California.
Reading it, and experiencing it in conversation with Miyabe, is a rollercoaster of facts, science, and emotion. There's ups and downs, unexpected turns, and stomach-wrenching moments that pull you into dark places, only to reemerge thrilled and invigorated. Left wanting more.
I'm cheering on the heroine of this fictional "dystopian, apocalyptic parallel universe" (that doesn't seem far off from reality), and the real-life Miyabe, because they're the kind of rebellious punk scientist we need right now.
